Impact
William C. Bunce

Every person I have met has had some effect on my behavior whether I like it or not. Sometimes, I have only momentary interaction with a person, yet they have the power to change my behavior instantly.  There are other people that I interact with continuously.  These people have caused a slow, but more permanent change in who I have become.  The work I have displays a collection of individuals that have had varying degrees of impact in my life.

It is difficult to capture one’s genuine personality when they are sitting in front of a 4 x 5 camera.  In order to break the conditioned minds of posing and cheesing, I decided to ask questions; and the subject was to mentally contemplate the answer. This invoked a more authentic expression. Several shots were taken with the intention of capturing different emotions in hopes of visually displaying a hint of each person’s character.

After careful selection of the negative, fighting with southern humidity, and struggling with dust, I printed mural photographs of each subject. The large images display a dramatic effect that symbolizes the complex impact of these people on my life. I encourage you to take this opportunity to get close and examine the faces that have impacted my world. And if you find any of them staring, by all means, stare back.

Note:
Web viewers, the original prints are black and white silver gelatin prints. Their size is 28"x42" and having them on this site can not give proper justice. However, several people have asked to be able to view them so here they reside for all to see.

Thank you,
William
